Always treasure my commands... Obey my commands and live!
God's Word is a key to life. It protects us from sin. Again this chapter points us to God's Word as the key to protecting us from sin.
Again, the brazen, promiscuous woman tempting the poor, naive man. Wow. I just don't buy it. "26 For she has been the ruin of many; many men have been her victims." Right. Willing victims, I might add! Sorry, but it takes two to tango. No one forced these poor, helpless men into bed with this "temptress". It isn't so much the lesson, but the way this chapter is worded that makes it so dated.
Proverbs 7 23 until an arrow pierces his heart, like a bird darting into a trap. He does not realize that it will cost him his life.
The word sin could be substituted for adultery in this Proverb. Ensnared in a trap. In verse 7, he leaves his friends.
James 1 14,15 Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.
Blinders were put on horses to keep them looking ahead, neither shifting to the right or the left unless... they turned their heads. Sin turns our head unless we are keeping our focus on where we are going forward. Blinders: “Something that serves to obscure clear perception and discernment.”
I Corinthians 10 13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
