In today's reading we find Jesus healing the man near the pool of Bethesda. This stirs up controversy with the religious leaders. Something that was common place for Him.
Jesus goes on to make the religious leaders even madder by stating God is His father.
What can we learn from this chapter?
John 5: Will we hear Him and live, or be entombed in our condition, waiting for others to provide the way for us?
ReplyDeleteJesus reveals Who He Is. Do we stay with man-made rules and regulations of traditions handed down from generation to generation, or to the Living Word, Whom the Father has sent?
I Am He Whom Moses spoke of in prior generations, and John, whom you know. You say you follow God, My Father, but you would know Me, for I do nothing without God showing Me. Jesus spoke. He is still speaking by His Holy Spirit. Will we hear Him and live?
39 You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me; 40 and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.
24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.
Entombed in our condition. He has provided the way to set us free from death into life.
The "problem" with these chapters is that there is so much in them. We could take a week just going through one chapter!
ReplyDeleteThere is so much here. Some important lessons that I get from this chapter are:
1. Have faith and I can be healed of anything physically or spiritually.
2. It is OK to pray, heal and do the work of God on the Sabbath.
3. Don't miss the true message of God by worrying about human-made laws and rules.
4. Jesus declared himself the Son of God with all the authority of God in this chapter. Either he is a complete hypocrite, delusional or he truly is the Son of God.
5. Jesus gives a foreshadowing of his pending death and resurrection.
Have a blessed weekend everyone!
I'm still struck by the fact that an angel came down regularly to stir up the waters. How awesome is that?
