In chapter 3 we read the familiar story of Peter and John going to the temple and seeing the cripple. The crippled man is hoping to get money, what he gets is so much more. The ability to walk. Peter takes the time to point the people to the source of the miracle. He's very quick to shift the focus from him and John and place it on God. He also uses it as a time to reinforce who Jesus is.
Now grant it, I haven't had the opportunity to say to someone "In the name of Jesus the Nazarene, rise up and walk." But have I take the opportunity to share who Jesus is to those around me that might not know. Sadly, I don't think so. But this passage is a good reminder of the importance.
The man's response what not to say "wait a minute! I'm going to have to get a job and stop living on welfare!" No, his response was to jump up and down and praise God for the miracle. Another good reminder. Never forget to praise God for what He's doing.
"25 You are the children of those prophets, and you are included in the covenant God promised to your ancestors. For God said to Abraham, ‘Through your descendants[f] all the families on earth will be blessed.’"
ReplyDeleteI love it! This includes us. :-)
We used to sing "Silver and Gold" in Young Life meetings when I was in High School. We had a blast walking and leaping.
Acts 3
ReplyDelete16 So that's how this miracle happened: we have faith in the name of Jesus, and He is the power that made this man strong--this man who is known to all of you. It is faith in Jesus that has given this man his complete health here today, in front of all of you.
