This chapter reminds us of how we need to take care of those less fortunate in our church, especially the widows who have no family.
I also find this verse interesting:
19 Do not listen to an accusation against an elder unless it is confirmed by two or three witnesses. 20 Those who sin should be reprimanded in front of the whole church; this will serve as a strong warning to others.
I don't think we see much of verse 20 happening these days.
We certainly don't. I also am interested in the distinction made between what the PEOPLE of the church should do (care for their own families) and what the CHURCH as an organization should do (care for those who have no families, but only if they CANNOT have a family, i.e. remarry...) Interesting.
ReplyDeleteI'll be away at the ACFW conference until Sunday, so though I'll be reading along, you might not hear from me. =) (Or hey, you might. Never know, LOL.)
1 Timothy 5
ReplyDelete24 The sins of some people are obvious, going ahead of them to judgment. The sins of others follow them there.
25 In the same way, the good things that people do are obvious, and those that aren’t obvious can’t remain hidden.
