A very interesting chapter in that Paul doesn't seem to be giving a lot of instruction. Mainly words of encouragement. But I do like the reminder Paul gives in verse 4:
4 For we speak as messengers approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News. Our purpose is to please God, not people. He alone examines the motives of our hearts.
As a young mom who spent two of the last six years nursing, I love verses 7 and 8, about how they were to the church as a nursing mother to a baby. One thing I remember so clearly from those nursing days is how absolutely everything I did revolved around that. What I wore, what I ate, when I could do certain things. That's how our lives should also revolve around our ministries--we should in all things consider how our actions, big and small, effect those we're nurturing in Christ. Being always aware that WE are not the center of our own lives anymore.
ReplyDeleteI loved Roseanna's comment and I don't have anything to add. :-)

ReplyDelete2b But our God gave us the courage to tell you his Good News in spite of strong opposition.
8a We felt so strongly about you that we were determined to share with you not only the Good News of God but also our lives.
15b-16a They fail to please God and work against all humanity as they try to keep us from preaching the Good News of salvation to the Gentiles.
