Oct 25, Day 299 - James 4

Click here to go to James 4

So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.

Oh the importance of staying humble and let God lift us to honor in His time and His way.

  1. James 4
Stop Fighting With Each Other, vs 1-10
2b-3 You don’t have the things you want, because you don’t pray for them. When you pray for things, you don’t get them because you want them for the wrong reason—for your own pleasure.

Stop Slandering Each Other, vs 11-12
11 Brothers and sisters, stop slandering each other. Those who slander and judge other believers slander and judge God’s teachings. If you judge God’s teachings, you are no longer following them. Instead, you are judging them.

Don't Brag About Your Plans for the Future, vs 13-17
14-15 You don’t know what will happen tomorrow. What is life? You are a mist that is seen for a moment and then disappears. Instead, you should say, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and carry out our plans.”

17 Whoever knows what is right but doesn’t do it is sinning.

  2. "13 Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” 14 How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. 15 What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” 16 Otherwise you are boasting about your own plans, and all such boasting is evil."

I really like this reminder. I've been trying more and more to live by this advice. God's will, not mine. And, yet, I'm encouraged over and over to tell people of my plans, etc. Until they materialize and I am sure God is leading me there, it isn't a good idea to talk about it as a sure thing.
