Nov 13, Day 316 - 1 John 4

So much good stuff in this chapter:
But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. (4)

God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. (9,10)

We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. (16)

Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. (18)

There is also an important warning: Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world. (1)

  1. Love the reminder that He who is in us is greater than he who is in the world. That's one we need to hold close always!

  2. "God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. 17 And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world.

18 Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. 19 We love each other[b] because he loved us first."

Perfect love expels all fear. :-)

  3. 1 John 4
2 Here is how you know God's Spirit: if a spirit affirms the truth that Jesus the Anointed, our Liberating King, has come in human flesh, then that spirit is from God.
3 If a spirit does not affirm the true nature of Jesus the Anointed, then that spirit does not come from God and is, in fact, the spirit of the antiChrist.* (*Literally, one who opposes the Anointed One and His kingdom) You have heard about its coming; in fact it is already active in the world.
4 My children, you have come from God and have conquered these spirits because the One who lives within you is greater than the one in this world.

6 We come from God, and those who know God hear us. Whoever is not from God will not listen to us. This is the way we discern the difference between the spirit of truth and the spirit of deception.
