Day 318, November 14 - Hebrews 10

Click here for today's reading

19 So, my friends, Jesus by His blood gives us courage to enter the most holy place. 20 He has created for us a new and living way through the curtain, that is, through His flesh. 21 Since we have a great High Priest who presides over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with true hearts full of faith, with hearts rinsed clean of any evil conscience, and with bodies cleansed with pure water. 23 Let us hold strong to the confession of our hope, never wavering, since the One who promised it to us is faithful. 24 Let us consider how to inspire each other to greater love and to righteous deeds, 25 not forgetting to gather as a community, as some have forgotten, but encouraging each other, especially as the day of His return approaches.

  1. Holly, you picked out the part I like best, too. "not forgetting to gather as a community, as some have forgotten" Is that ever true in 2013!

  2. Hebrews 10
    8-10 In this passage Christ first said, “You did not want sacrifices, offerings, burnt offerings, and sacrifices for sin. You did not approve of them.” (These are the sacrifices that Moses’ Teachings require people to offer.) Then Christ says, “I have come to do what you want.” He did away with sacrifices in order to establish the obedience that God wants. We have been set apart as holy because Jesus Christ did what God wanted him to do by sacrificing his body once and for all.

    14-18 With one sacrifice he accomplished the work of setting them apart for God forever. The Holy Spirit tells us the same thing: “This is the promise that I will make to them after those days, says the Lord: ‘I will put my teachings in their hearts and write them in their minds.’ ” Then he adds, “I will no longer hold their sins and their disobedience against them.” When sins are forgiven, there is no longer any need to sacrifice for sins.

    39 We don’t belong with those who turn back and are destroyed. Instead, we belong with those who have faith and are saved.

    1 Samuel 15:22
    Does the Eternal One delight in sacrifices and burnt offerings
    as much as in perfect obedience to His voice?
    Be certain of this: that obedience is better than sacrifice;
    to heed His voice is better than offering the fat of rams.
