August 2, Day 215 - 2 Corinthians 12

"...My power works best in weakness..." That is such a great truth! There are so many times times when I feel so inferior in situations, but when I trust God to be my strength things go so much better. It's when I try to do it myself when I get in trouble!

  1. That passage about His strength being made perfect in our weakness rates as one of my favorites in the whole Bible. So, so true.

Today I was also struck by Paul's concerns that when they meet again, they won't be what the other wants. That too speaks to a profound truth about our expectations can be used against us.

  2. 2 Corinthians 12:21a "...formerly led sinful lives and have not changed the way they think and act..."

    changed from the formerly
so until head knowledge becomes heart knowledge, freedom is illusive

    Thesaurus: illusive
unreal - lacking in reality or substance or genuineness; not corresponding to acknowledged facts or criteria

    Psalm 119:111
Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart.

    Psalm 119:11
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

  3. 19 Perhaps you think we’re saying these things just to defend ourselves. No, we tell you this as Christ’s servants, and with God as our witness. Everything we do, dear friends, is to strengthen you. 20 For I am afraid that when I come I won’t like what I find, and you won’t like my response. I am afraid that I will find quarreling, jealousy, anger, selfishness, slander, gossip, arrogance, and disorderly behavior. 21 Yes, I am afraid that when I come again, God will humble me in your presence. And I will be grieved because many of you have not given up your old sins. You have not repented of your impurity, sexual immorality, and eagerness for lustful pleasure."

Ummm...yes, Paul, I believe you are saying these things to defend yourself. Why would you go on and on about them for chapters on end? And, why are you predicting the worst when you were just saying a couple chapters ago how far the Corinthians have come in their faith? I suggest some rest and prayer. Turn your brain off for a little while. :-)
