August 21, Day 234 - Ephesians 6

Click here to go to Ephesians 6

This chapter is so rich, as the entire book. But my favorite part is the armor of God in verses 14 - 17. A friend of mine would talk about putting on the armor of God each morning as a prayer she would start with the feet and work her way up something like:

Put on the shoes of peace, that you walk in peace.
The belt of truth - that not only would one speak truth, but would hear truth.
The breastplate of righteousness to protect your heart.
The helmet of salvation to protect your mind.
The shield of faith, to face all that is thrown at you.
Finally, the only offensive weapon, the Sword of the Spirit the Word of God.

There's plenty more good stuff in this chapter.

  1. It's impossible not to love the armor section. I especially appreciate how it helps me understand each of the things with which we gird ourselves. That salvation is a matter of knowledge, protecting our minds, NOT a matter of feeling. Righteousness is what should cover and insulate our hearts. Truth is what we should wrap around us, that holds up everything else. We should move in peace, act in it, not just talk about it. And yes, that our only weapon is to be the Word of God. So awesome!

  2. Ephesians 6
2-3 “Honor your father and mother that everything may go well for you, and you may have a long life on earth.” This is an important commandment with a promise.

... that you may have a long life on earth
    a promise

    fruitful

10-11 Finally, receive your power from the Lord and from his mighty strength. Put on all the armor that God supplies. In this way you can take a stand against the devil’s strategies.

    His Power, His Strength
    all the armor HE supplies

13b Once you have overcome all obstacles, you will be able to stand your ground.

18-19 Pray in the Spirit in every situation. Use every kind of prayer and request there is. For the same reason be alert. Use every kind of effort and make every kind of request for all of God’s people. Also pray that God will give me the right words to say. Then I will speak boldly when I reveal the mystery of the Good News.

Exodus 4:12 God's Word to Moses
"Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say."

    Ephesians 6
23-24 May God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give our brothers and sisters peace and love along with faith. His favor is with everyone who has an undying love for our Lord Jesus Christ.
