In Acts 1 we read Jesus' final words to the disciples and then His ascension. Even after all the disciples witness they didn't completely understand. Their hope was Jesus would now set up His kingdom, yet He tells them that is in His Father's hands.
The Voice put His response this way:
Jesus: The Father, on His own authority, has determined the ages and epochs of history, but you have not been given this knowledge. Here's the knowledge you need: you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you. And you will be My witnesses, first here in Jerusalem, then beyond to Judea and Samaria, and finally to the farthest places on earth.Jesus had already taught them so much about the Holy Spirit and His role in their life. He would be a teacher, a guide, and here the promise of power to be Christ's witnesses.
How is the Holy Spirit showing Himself to you these days?
I think His role as teacher in my life has been so important.
The Holy Spirit is there all the time if only I would listen. And, when I don't listen, the Holy Spirit usually comes as "fire" to get my attention.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that we have direct access to The Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit and that we can speak to God and get answers directly is what makes it so personal and meaningful. It is such a great gift that we have and sometimes I forget how precious it truly is.
The Holy Spirit shows me how to do things in my every day life that are so amazing and beyond what I would have ever thought of myself. A recent example: I am making a quilt from a photo enlarged on the computer. I am trying to match the colors from the fabrics I have. I am not thinking about it and this is the direction I get: Cut out the pieces for the quilt blocks from the shades you have matched, place them where they go and the empty spaces can be filled in to choose the color you are missing. Since I am a visual learner, this is exactly what I needed to picture it beyond seeing the fabrics side by side for the block.
ReplyDeleteThe Holy Spirit prompts me to speak to someone, or to keep silent. Words and phrases in Bible reading jump out at me and are the exact words I need. I have the assurance of God's love and care for me. The Holy Spirit comforts me and brings Scripture to my remembrance. He strengthens my faith. I trust Him and God's Word to me. II Timothy 1:9-14 speaks of the assurance we can have in what Christ has done, and the Holy Spirit within us to perform it.
