May 1, Day 122 - Acts 5

Click here to go to Acts 5

Such a powerful chapter, at the beginning of the chapter we read of Ananias and Sapphira, who decided to deceive the apostles. No one made them sell their land and give all the money to the church, some did do that but it wasn't a requirement.  So why did they lie? We can only guess at their motives, but it should be a reminder that God does see our motives and we will be judged. We may not be drop dead on the spot as they did, but we know without a doubt it will happen. Such a powerful reminder.

There also some exciting stories in this chapter.  I love the story of Peter passing by and when his shadow will fall on someone they would be healed. The excitement that must have created in the Jerusalem.  Of course, the religious leaders were angry and the apostles were arrested again. But once again, they stood firm with the conviction that it's better to obey God rather than men.

So very good!

  1. It has been so long since I read Acts all the way through. I forgot more than I remembered. As I was reading today, I was curious who wrote Acts. I searched and it appears most theologians believe Luke probably wrote it. It makes sense because it is very much like his writing style.

  2. Acts 5
31 God used his power to give Jesus the highest position as Leader and Savior. He did this to lead the people of Israel to Him, to change the way they think and act, and to forgive their sins.

God's power giving Jesus the highest position as Leader and Savior
    To lead me to Him
To change the way I think and act
    To forgive my sins

38b-39 ...if the plan they put into action is of human origin, it will fail. However, if it’s from God, you won’t be able to stop them. You may even discover that you’re fighting against God.

    Isaiah 54
17 No weapon that has been made to be used against you will succeed. You will have an answer for anyone who accuses you. This is the inheritance of the LORD's servants. Their victory comes from Me," declares the LORD.

    Song: Jehovah - Nissi
    © 1989 Dennis Jernigan

    (1) Lift up the standard, No matter what the cost, Exalt the name of Jesus And the banner of the cross We have a firm foundation, A Rock, the Corner-stone Exalt the King of Glory, who reigns upon His throne

Chorus: Jehovah Nissi reign in victory

    (2) No weapon formed Against us No fortresses too high Can stand against The host of God Amidst the battle cry So lift the banner higher And raise a joyful sound And glorify the King As Satan's walls Come tumbling down

  3. I love Gamaliel's advice too--even though he probably wasn't sure (yet?) what was going on, he knew that God's truth couldn't be hushes up--and that man's would inevitably fall silent.
