This is such a great narrative, of their journey to Italy. And I love Paul, "If you would have listened to me..." How often do I fail to listen to God's voice speaking to me through others or His Word and end up in a nasty storm that could have been avoided.
As much as I enjoy Acts I'm looking forward to starting Romans on Monday and moving through Paul's letters.

ReplyDeleteThe commanding officer seems like a very kind man considering everything. I imagine he may have had the Holy Spirit working in him somehow, even though there is nothing that explicitly states that.

ReplyDelete3b Julius treated Paul kindly and allowed him to visit his friends and receive any care he needed.
11 However, the officer [Julius] was persuaded by what the pilot and the owner of the ship said and not by what Paul said.
Commerce decision and the owner of the ship loses the wheat shipment anyway. Seems the pilot would have had experience with the northeasterly trade winds and the seasons.
31 Paul told the officer and the soldiers, “If these sailors don’t stay on the ship, you have no hope of staying alive.”
32 Then the soldiers cut the ropes that held the lifeboat and let it drift away.
They decide to listen to Paul.
42 The soldiers had a plan to kill the prisoners to keep them from swimming away and escaping.
A plan not to deliver the prisoners ~*~ killing them so they don't escape?
