This is a great chapter because God starts breaking Peter out of his Jewish mold. From the time he was a child Peter was taught all the things he wasn't suppose to eat because they were "unclean." He also was member of God's chosen people, the Jews. And in one afternoon he is told that he shouldn't call something unclean that God has made clean and he's invited into the home of a Roman.
This transition wasn't an easy one for the early church, and there will be more about that in later chapters and Paul will have to address some of the issues. Thankfully, the apostles and those that followed were faithful so we can discuss and encourage one another.
I think I must have skipped Acts a lot because most of this is not ringing a bell for me. I'm really in awe of how much I am learning about the history after Jesus was crucified and rose.

ReplyDeleteAgain, a wonderful story of the account that happened. Cornelius is told to send messengers to retrieve Peter to return with them to minister to the people; who he is and where he will be found. In turn, Peter is told who is coming and why they are there, and what he is to do. So excellent!
43 In addition, all the prophets testify that people who believe in the one named Jesus receive forgiveness for their sins through him.
Revelation 12:7-12
11 They won the victory over him because of the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony. They didn't love their life so much that they refused to give it up.
