June 14, Day 166 - Romans 9

Click here to go to Romans 9

As exciting as chapter 8 was I find this one a little confusing.  But the one thing that wasn't confusing was Paul's quoting Hosea.
“Those who were not my people,
I will now call my people.
And I will love those
whom I did not love before.”
(25)

So good!

  1. I know in most forums I'm usually a bit more liberal in my biblical interpretations than a lot of people. I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers, but I sometimes question Paul's letters as actual "word of God". In some cases, I think Paul is writing letters in which he is expressing his own heart, interpretations and his own confusion. Some of his letters are more like a journal. In some cases, they remind me of how Job wrote. In any case, while I think what he wrote is inspired by his relationship with God, I don't think they are all necessarily God's actual words. When something he (or other Biblical authors) write doesn't reconcile with the Father, Son and Spirit that I know in my heart, I turn to prayer for answers. I do believe that God is still speaking - everyday.

  2. Romans 9
12 a choice based on God’s call and not on anything people do
16 Therefore, God’s choice does not depend on a person’s desire or effort, but on God’s mercy.

32a They didn’t rely on faith to gain God’s approval, but they relied on their own efforts.

    Romans 5
1 Now that we have God’s approval because of faith, we have peace with God because of what our Lord Jesus Christ has done.

8-11 Christ died for us while we were still sinners. This demonstrates God’s love for us. Since Christ’s blood has now given us God’s approval, we are even more certain that Christ will save us from God’s anger. If the death of his Son restored our relationship with God while we were still his enemies, we are even more certain that, because of this restored relationship, the life his Son lived will save us. In addition, our Lord Jesus Christ lets us continue to brag about God. After all, it is through Christ that we now have this restored relationship with God.
