June 6, Day 158 - Romans 3

Click here to go to Romans 3

Romans 3:23 is used in the "Romans Road to Salvation" "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."  True, BUT I don't understand why those tracks of the 70's and 80's stopped there.  The following verses tell the rest of the story:

Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. 25 For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, 26 for he was looking ahead and including them in what he would do in this present time. God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he declares sinners to be right in his sight when they believe in Jesus.

Right there is the story of salvation.  We were all sinners, yet God in His great mercy (undeserved kindness) declares that we are righteous!!  How?!?! Through Christ Jesus when He freed us from the penalty for sins.  I'm sure I've read this chapter before, but today it jumped out at me reading verse 23 in context with the rest of the chapter.

Thank God for that undeserved kindness!

Kristian Stanfill ~ Jesus Paid It All

Praise the One who paid my debt and raised this life up from the dead!!

The first words out of my mouth when I was saved: "I'm free, I'm free." How well my soul knew it!! For the first time. Out of captivity!!

    Romans 3
20b Moses’ Teachings show what sin is.

I knew what the law said. I did not know what God's grace said!!

I knew a God of thunderbolts and lightning way off there somewhere. I did not know a God of Love.

I could not strive to be good enough. I failed. He gently picked me up, pursued me, wooed me. I fell in love, in secure everlasting arms that never let me go.

24b-25 ...through the price Christ Jesus paid to set us free from sin. God showed that Christ is the throne of mercy where God’s approval is given through faith in Christ’s blood.

His Blood covering all sin. Sin no longer separating us from God. He has done it!

28 We conclude that a person has God’s approval because of faith, not because of his own efforts.

  2. Holly,
You bring up a great point and one that continually drives me crazy about some preachers. They sometimes take a verse out of context and create a completely different meaning (usually very negative) than what was intended. Thank God for the REST of the story!
