Day 37 - Matthew 6

Jesus reminds the disciples (and us) that we don't need to make a big deal about what we do, God sees and knows and that's all that matters.

Jesus gives us an example of prayer, I like the NLT translation of it:
Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon.
May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.

I know I've said this several times before (but when talking about scripture I think it's okay) one of my favorite verses is verse 33: Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

There is so much in this chapter, what is God saying to you through this chapter?

Blessings,
Holly

  1. I think we all naturally to receive credit for the good things we do--so this chapter is SO crucial, at least for me. A reminder that no one else need even KNOW, but that all my actions should be for God. Not for man. Not for credit.

  2. Interesting. I added a comment and it didn't show up. Here is is again - a verse that stands out for me:

27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?

Being a worry-wart gets me nothing and only steals precious moments. I need to remember this verse almost every day. Perhaps, I should tape it onto my computer and steering wheel.

  3. Matthew 6
    True Riches
19 “Stop storing up treasures for yourselves on earth, where moths and rust destroy and thieves break in and steal.
26 “Look at the birds. They don’t plant, harvest, or gather the harvest into barns. Yet, your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they?
This evening a friend mentioned how she was passing the long white buildings on concrete pads fenced in near us. The missionary from India traveling with her exclaimed, "Oh, are those apartments?"
"No, those are storage buildings. People pay monthly to store their things."
Luke 12:20 But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life will be demanded back from you. Now who will get the things you've accumulated?'

    1. I always go back a day and make sure I catch up on comments that come in after I post. Your account of what happened with the missionary really hit home. We just recently emptied our paid storage and got rid of a bunch of stuff. I don't even remember what was in there. :-)
