Day 47 - Matthew 16

Click here to access Matthew 16

So many life lessons in this chapter. The first one being to be careful about expecting signs. The Pharisees wanted to see a sign to prove that Jesus was who He said. We shouldn't expect God to jump through hoops to show us He's God. Now there are times when God does give us signs to help but we can't expect or demand it. (vv. 1 - 4)

The second lesson I see is in verses 5-12. I see it as a reminder to us of the importance of verify what our pastors and other preachers teach. We need to be reading and studying the Word of God and not just blindly follow.

There's other stuff here as well. But I love hearing what you guys have to say.

  1. The "signs of the times" thing really hit me today. Jesus uses such a simple example--predicting the weather based on the sky. Saying if we can understand that, why can't we understand the Word of the Lord?

How much more is this relevant today? Our science, our technology, has unlocked so many answers--but if we're capable of understanding all that, how much more are we expected to discover about the Lord? Ought it not make evident His awesomeness is bigger and better ways, just like Dopler and whatnot can tell us even more details about the weather?

Looking forward to the transfiguration tomorrow. =)

  2. Matthew 16
15-17 He asked them, “But who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God!” Jesus replied, “Simon, son of Jonah, you are blessed! No human revealed this to you, but my Father in heaven revealed it to you.

When God has revealed something to you, you know it! No man can take away from you what the Father has revealed.

    1 Corinthians 2:9-11
    GOD’S WORD Translation
    9 But as Scripture says:

          “No eye has seen,
             no ear has heard,
                and no mind has imagined
the things that God has prepared
          for those who love him.”
10 God has revealed those things to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches everything, especially the deep things of God. 11 After all, who knows everything about a person except that person’s own spirit? In the same way, no one has known everything about God except God’s Spirit.
