Day 65 - Mark 4

Click here to go to Mark 4

Here we have several of Jesus' parables.  There are so many good things in these parables. But the thing that speaks to me today is the story of Jesus calming the storm. Everyone around him is freaking out and Jesus is asleep in the back of the boat. When the disciples woke him up he silenced the storm. It just reminded me that no matter how rough the storms are in my life, all I have to do is turn to Jesus and He can silence the storm.

God is good!

Welcome back Lane!

  1. The same part hit me today. But in a different way. That storm would NOT have sunk the boat--we know that, because Jesus's time hadn't come. They would have been fine. Jesus could have woken up and said, "Sheesh, people, why are you worried? Just have faith." then gone back to sleep.

But he didn't. He calmed the storm, even though he didn't HAVE to in order to survive. He calmed it for the peace of mind of his followers and friends. THEN reminded them to trust in him.

I find that so comforting today.

  2. I've always liked the mustard seed parable. It is important that we remember that planted even the tiniest seed can change our lives or help change other lives. Sometimes, we are overwhelmed by a sense that we can't do anything to make the world a better place and bring more people in touch with God. But, there are so many opportunities to plant a little seed. And, God will take it from there!

  3. Mark 4
12b “They never return to Me and are never forgiven.”
The void in each life that can only be filled by becoming Christ-followers.

22 “There is nothing hidden that will not be revealed. There is nothing kept secret that will not come to light.”
This holds special meaning to me. To reflect His light by being light-bearers, we must stay close to Him and keep replenishing His oil in our lamps.
Our Lane Hill House word that was given to my husband that was confirmation to us to make an appointment with the realtor to come from Wisconsin to Missouri to look at this home: Matthew 5:14-16 The Message Bible
"Here's another way to put it: You're here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We're going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don't think I'm going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I'm putting you on a light stand. Now that I've put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you'll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven."

34b "But when He was alone with His disciples, He explained everything to them."
Oh, Lord, may I be so close to You that I have understanding and am teachable.
