Day 15, January 15 - John 11

"I am the resurrection" those were Jesus' words to Martha. Jesus knew that Lazarus would die and he would raise him from the dead to show God's glory. Yet, He wept and was deeply troubled. (33, 35 and 38).  It showed not only his sorrow at the death of Lazarus as well as his sorrow for his friends' suffering. (ESV study Bible notes).  I like the way John showed us Jesus' humanity. He loved Lazarus and his sisters.

This passage reminds me of the humanity of Jesus and that He understands how I feel and hurt for lost loved ones.

  1. "33 When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in his spirit and greatly troubled. 34 And he said, "Where have you laid him?" They said to him, "Lord, come and see." 35 Jesus wept. 36 So the Jews said, "See how he loved him!" 37 But some of them said, "Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man also have kept this man from dying?'"

This is a wonderful reminder to us that Jesus was truly human and felt human emotions. It makes my relationship with Him that much more real.

  2. John 11
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the one who brings people back to life, and I am life itself. Those who believe in me will live even if they die."

I am thankful that He has freed me from the chains of death, from being bound by sins I could not remove myself from. How deep His love is for us.
