Day 10 - Proverbs 2

For today we're reading Proverbs 2 If you are behind you can skip Proverbs 2 and read a chapter from John.

Today the writer of Proverbs is again encouraging us to go after wisdom like we would go after treasures.
  • We are to tune our ears to wisdom (2)
  • Concentrate on understanding (2)
  • Cry out for insight (3)
  • Ask for understanding (3)
  • Search for them like silver (4)
  • Seek them like hidden treasures (4)
When we do that there are so many benefits to be gained.

What speaks to you from this passage?

  1. What speaks to me is that Solomon is saying here that if you seek wisdom, you understand the fear of the Lord and discover the knowledge of God. I think in human history we have a habit of seeking knowledge and trying to separate it from the Lord. But in truth, if we seek it correctly, seek RIGHT knowledge, wisdom, then we not only discover truths about our world, we discover the God of wisdom who created it. The world reveals Him, and He in turn reveals far more than the world to us.

  2. I think part of what the first part of this chapter is saying is that we can ask for wisdom and it will be given to us. But, we must tune into it - be willing to hear it and act accordingly.

    The second part:
Why is it that "immoral" men do a myriad of evils in the Bible, but "immoral" women seem to only be obsessed with luring unwitting men into adulterous sex?

  3. 4 if you search for wisdom as if it were money and hunt for it as if it were hidden treasure,
5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord and you will find the knowledge of God.

The second Tuesday after morning exercise class we bring snacks and share together. This morning a woman was talking about dropping her bundle of keys and retracing her steps to look for them. Another mentioned losing her pouch with drivers license, debit and gift card behind it. They shared how they searched and prayed that the Lord would show them where they were. They were located. The one on the pavement, still there from where she had parked her car. The other, beside a chair leg of a person she was revisiting. Do we seek diligently for His hidden treasures?

7b He is a shield for those who walk in integrity... 8 to guard... and watch over

He shields, guards and watches over.

9 Then you will understand what is right and just and fair—every good course in life.
10 Wisdom will come into your heart. Knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.

As we grow and seek knowledge from Him comes understanding that His ways are just in all of our life. His wisdom becomes so alive in our heart. He loves my soul.

I saw an example of the second part of Proverbs 2. A packed before work breakfast ... I just stopped to look up the name of the restaurant and instead of listing the city and name I am adding a review instead that kind of sums it up.

    3.0 star rating
    1/1/2012

I'd like to give the place 4 stars but it is a little chaotic as other reviewers have said. I can also see how some folks had what they consider a 1 start visit, but really the place doesn't deserve 1 star. If you love interesting breakfast, this place is a must stop. The service we got was good, but some of the folks there looked very "different", I think they probably hire a certain eccentric type of employee but some of the folks took it a little too far. They had a bar which was a nice surprise and made a great bloody mary. Coffee was good, food was good with a ton of interesting selections. Not the kind of place I'd bring my grandmother but really worth a stop if you don't mind spending a few extra dollars on a really good breakfast. The only menu item that needed some improvement were the grits... too gritty.

The grandmother part is what caught my eye. Across from our table a couple was at the bar eating. The gal, standing, was all over him, very obvious continuing the night before. He patted her as he left in his expensive suit. There is a conglomeration of verses 12-19. They both were duped. God's warning is to young men not to get sucked in. Wisdom will save you from those who abandon the path. vs. 12,13
