July 4, Day 186 - 1 Corinthians 7

Click here to go to 1 Corinthians 7

My favorite verse in this chapter is verse 16.  It has a special meaning for me because I saw it played out in a friends life.  She faithful to her husband but continued going to church through the years, and her husband eventually became a Christian.  It is always great to see God's promises come true in such a great way.

Have a blessed 4h of July!

  1. 1 Corinthians 7
29 This is what I mean, brothers and sisters: The time has been shortened. While it lasts, those who are married should live as though they were not.

Important to be aware of others' needs. My husband and I pray together for the Lord's intervention.

35 I’m saying this for your benefit, not to restrict you. I’m showing you how to live a noble life of devotion to the Lord without being distracted by other things.

  2. I'll be honest--this chapter has always rubbed me the wrong way. I don't think marriage is only to be desired when one is too weak to avoid sexual temptation. I think it is, for many of us, what God calls us to, because we're stronger when yoked together than we are on our own. And let's not get me started on how the human race would die out if we all were as Paul was... LOL. Of course, Paul does admit this is his opinion, not divine commandment. Okay, my mumbling is over. ;-)

I do like the parts you mentioned, about how the faithfulness of one spouse can lead to the other's salvation. So true--I've seen it work too.
