Day 1 - John 1

Thank you for starting this journey with me. I pray that you will be encouraged and through this time develop a habit of daily reading God's Word.

Here's the link for today's reading from YouVersion.Com

Once you get to the site you can chose the version you prefer. I used the New Living Translation for devotional reading. On the iPad version, at least, there is an audio file that you can listen to. It's very well done utilizing not only a narrator but character voices as well.

As you've read John chapter 1, what verse or verses jump out at you. Please leave a comment and share.
Mine would be verse 12 - But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. What a great promise!

  1. What jumped out at me was the repetition of the command, "Come and see." And when they obeyed and came, opened their eyes, the SAW. Something our human eyes can't do without light, and which our spiritual eyes can't do without the Light.

This has always been one of my favorite chapters of the Bible, and even more so after I read it in the original Greek, where it's sooooo poetic! The language is beautiful and reminiscent of Gensis, and just such a wonderful reminder for us as Christians, that Christ is our past, present, and future, our anchor, and our lamp.

  2. Well, I hate to be a "me too", but my favorite is also verse 12. I love that all we have to do is believe and accept no matter who we are. It is as simple as that.

  3. “I saw you under the fig tree before Philip called you.” John 1:48b, God's Word.
In October, 1973, the Lord sent a woman to knock on my door. She obeyed. She was returning from her mailbox at the end of the road. She told me later she asked, "But what will I say?" When she knocked on my door, I had my finger in the book where I was reading and said, "I have some questions."
