July 11, Day 193 - 1 Corinthians 12

Click here to go to 1 Corinthians 12

This is another chapter that has created many controversies in the church. But rather than focus on the things that might create conflicts, I would prefer to remind us that like the human body the body of Christ is made up of many different parts.  And it's important that we not take for grant it or discount other parts of the Body of Christ.

I had never noticed before how chapter 12 ends: But now let me show you a way of life that is best of all.

Because tomorrow is the Love Chapter.

Be Blessed!

  1. "25 This makes for harmony among the members, so that all the members care for each other. 26 If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad."

I've never known this chapter to be controversial. I always thought of it as a unifying message that honors everyone. We are all necessary and useful no matter what our role or talent is.

  2. 1 Corinthians 12
4-7 There are different spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit gives them. There are different ways of serving, and yet the same Lord is served. There are different types of work to do, but the same God produces every gift in every person. The evidence of the Spirit’s presence is given to each person for the common good of everyone.

11 There is only one Spirit who does all these things by giving what God wants to give to each person.

18-20 So God put each and every part of the body together as he wanted it. How could it be a body if it only had one part? So there are many parts but one body.

24b-25 God has put the body together and given special honor to the part that doesn’t have it. God’s purpose was that the body should not be divided but rather that all of its parts should feel the same concern for each other.

27 You are Christ’s body and each of you is an individual part of it.

I find it so interesting that in those assembled, needs are met. Whether it be a cookout and one is ministered to in their need, be it encouragement or affirmation, healing, or care. One is there to lend a hand. I am reminded of "God places the solitary in families." (Psalm 68:1-6)
